Jong Mee Lee
Soprano
A native of Seoul, Korea, Jong Mee Lee gained international recognition through her frequent appearances in the leading roles al the world-renowned Bolshoi Opera in Russia, where she was prima donna for 8 seasons. Ms. Lee has performed numerous times at the Bolshoi Opera. During her debut season as Violetta in La Traviata, she was also engaged to perform the role of Queen of Shemakhan in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Golden Cockerel. She is the only non-Russian “who the Bolshoi has engaged to perform this significant role” and who had been invited to the Rimsky-Korsakov 150 Anniversary.
In addition to her acclaimed performances at the Bolshoi Opera, Ms. Lee was chosen by Maestro Valery Gergiev to sing Gilda in Rigoletto in the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, where she made her mark in history as the first Asian singer to ever perform there, since the opening of the theatre in 1860.
Her international presence includes performing Queen of the night in The Magic Flute in the Seoul Art Center Opera House and sang Blonde in Die Entführung aus dem Serail in Charleston, South Carolina, U.S.A. at the Spoleto Festival.
Ms. Lee’s extensive operatic appearance includes the title role of Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor, Rosina in II Barbiere di Siviglia, Prilleppa in Queen of Spades, Giulietta in Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Michael K version), Musetta in La Bohème, Gilda in Rigoletto, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Despina in Così fan tutte, Silverpeal in The Impresario, Violetta in La Traviata which she performed at the Bolshoi Opera, New York City Opera, Saratov Opera, Toledo Opera, Metro Lyrics Opera, The Musa Jalil Tatar Academic Opera, Almata Opera, Hanmi Opera, The Opera Camerata of Washington, Rochester Opera, Opera at Florham, DiCapo Opera.
Jong Mee Lee has had a solo recital with the Korean Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra simulcast nationwide in South Korea with the Baton of Maestro James Meena. She also performed three solo recitals with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra at the Grand Hall in St. Petersburg, Russia with Baton of Maestro Fouat Mansourov, and a solo recital with Kazan Opera Orchestra in The Musa Jalil Tatar Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. Ms. Lee also performed two solo recitals with the Kazan Philharmonic Orchestra as well as a solo recital with Almata Philharmonic Orchestra. She has performed all over the world, with the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Korean Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony, Shanghai Symphony, Philippine Philharmonic, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and the Beijing Cultural Philharmonic, Gyeonggi Provincial Pops Orchestra, Seoul Pops Orchestra, Mostly Orchestra, Seoul National Symphony Orchestra, Toledo Opera Orchestra, Kammer Symponie Berlin.
Furthermore, Ms. Lee has performed over 400 solo recitals, which include 40 duo concerts with world- famous bass Jerome Hines.
Most recently, Ms. Lee toured with an orchestra throughout the country. She performed extensive times onthe nationwide television show “Open Concert” in South Korea.
Ms. Lee obtained her Master of Music with a full scholarship from The Juilliard School and was chosen tobe part of the highly prestigious Juilliard Opera Center. Ms. Lee’s television broadcasts include WNET-TV, numerous occasions on Korean Broadcasting System telecasted throughout the world; and was guest on“Good Evening Moscow” in Russia.
