About

American coloratura soprano Brenna Markey made her operatic debut as Pamina in Guilded Angel Opera Company’s production of Die Zauberflöte and since has appeared as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni; Elvira in Bellini’s I Puritani and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi.

Ms. Markey’s 2016-2017 performance engagements include Lucia in Opera Susquehanna’s Lucia di Lammermoore; Soprano soloist in Vivaldi Gloria with the Lutheran Church of Our Savior; Soprano soloist in Joseph Haydn’s Missa in B “Harmoniemesse” with Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr Pennsylvania and the role of Rusalka in the Philadelphia Premiere of Alexander Dargomyzhsky’s Rusalka under the direction of Ghenady Meirson. In August 2016, Brenna was invited to perform in the 2016 Canto de las America’s final concert as a special guest performer. In February of 2016 Ms. Markey appeared as a soprano soloist in Mozart’s Requiem at Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr PA.

Other opera appearances include Lee Hoiby’s A Month in the Country and Mozart’s The Magic Flute with the Temple University Opera Theater, Center City Opera Theater production of La traviata, Opera Philadelphia’s Don Giovanni, Christ Church in Concert Opera of Philadelphia’s Andrea Chénier.

In August of 2015, Brenna studied at the Canto de las Americas Summer Workshop under the direction of the highly-accomplished Veronica Villarroel. Ms. Markey has also worked with other highly experienced instructors including Benita Valente, Ira Siff, Eduardo Valdez, Richard Raub, Simon Saad and Lucy Arner, Danielle Orlando, Michele Scanlon and Carlos Serrano.

A native of Bucks County Pennsylvania, Ms. Markey received her Bachelor degree in music from Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance, graduating with honors and receiving the Professor Klara B. Meyers Tribute Scholarship presented to Ms. Markey by the head of the vocal department, Dr. Christine Anderson. When not competing or in production, Brenna Markey is a Staff Singer at Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr and teaches and resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
