Rachel Policar

“Policar's rendition of Goldele is outstanding. Her crystal clear voice, well balanced register, and solid technique pull our attention to her every time she's on stage—which is, luckily, quite often.” — The Easy

"Ms. Policar and Mr. Johnson supply the show’s greatest vocal richness...When Goldele sings a lullaby she remembers from earliest childhood, Ms. Policar colors it with intensity and pain.” — The New York Times

“Goldele, played by the opera-trained Rachel Policar, is a standout”
— Jewish Telegraphic Agency

American soprano Rachel Policar has been described by critics as “a standout” and “silver-voiced” (Lighting and Sound America, Jewish Telegraphic Agency). She garnered the attention of the press for her 2015 Off Broadway debut with the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene as Goldele in The Golden Bride, a role she performed over 85 times across two runs. In the 2017-18 season, Ms. Policar makes her role and company debut as Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi with ARE Opera, and will cover/perform the role of Blonde in Die Entführung aus dem Serail with the Bronx Opera. Equally at home in the world of musical theatre, she will return to Coro Lirico New Jersey for From Porter to Piaf, and as a soloist in concert with the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene for their 2017 Gala.

The 2016-2017 included a number of role and company debuts such as Adina in L’elisir d’amore with the North Shore Music Festival, Soprano soloist in Carmina Burana with the New York Choral Society, and a reprise of Gilda in Rigoletto with the Anchorage Opera, conducted by Brian DeMaris and directed by Jeffrey Marc Buchman. In 2015, Rachel debuted as Gilda in Rigoletto with the Asheville Lyric Opera, reprising the role as a Guest Artist with the Janiec Opera Company at the Brevard Music Center, conducted by Jerome Shannon and directed by Dean Anthony. As a member of the 2015 and 2013 Janiec Opera Companies, she performed Valencienne in The Merry Widow, covered the title role and sang Kate in The Ballad of Baby Doe, and covered Nannetta in Falstaff. She debuted with the Bronx Opera as Emmie in Albert Herring. Ms. Policar debuted as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel in 2014 with the Dayton Opera, where she was an Artist in Residence for the season. She was a Festival Artist with the Utah Festival Artist, as the cover for Kathie in The Student Prince and the cover for Cosette in Les Miserables, singing excerpts as Musetta, La Boheme and Mabel, Pirates of Penzance. She was a 2016 Resident Artist with the Knoxville Opera, performing as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel for their education outreach program.

Rachel is a 2013 First Place winner of the New York Lyric Opera National Vocal Competition, and a 2013 First Place winner of the Ladies Musical Club of Seattle Competition. She was a Second Place prize winner of the Five Towns Music and Arts Foundation Award, and a Second Place winner of the 2014 Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition. She holds a Master of Music degree in Classical Voice from the Manhattan School of Music, where she performed Le Feu/La Princesse/Le Rossignol in L’enfant et les sortileges under the baton of Ken Merill, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel and excerpts as Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring.
